MFBN is excited to announce its participation in a fun and creative “food drive” called…CANstruction®!!
What exactly is CANstruction®?
A foundation of the Society for Design Administration, CANstruction® is a design/build competition currently held throughout cities in North America. Teams of architects, engineers and folks from numerous organizations come together to build large structures made entirely from full cans of food. Since its inception, 10 million pounds of food have been donated to aid in the fight against hunger. Visit http://www.canstruction.org for more information.
Please join us as we kick off Missoula’s 1st CANstruction® event!
This year’s teams include participants from: CTA Architects Engineers, Upward Bound at the University of MT-Missoula, OZ Architects, the Missoula Organization of Realtors and the Dennis & Phyllis Washington Foundation. Guest judges include: Monte Dolack of the Monte Dolack Gallery, Dudley Dana of the Dana Gallery, Gretchen Iman of Eclipse Engineering, Dennis Johnson of A&E Architects and Molly Murphy – contemporary sculptural native beadwork artist. The honorary emcee for this year’s awards ceremony will be Mayor John Engen.
CANstruction® will be held at the Southgate Mall, near the fountain adjacent to the entrance of Sears. Schedule of events include:
· The Build: Thursday, July 9, 5pm – 11pm. Stop by and watch as piles of canned goods are transformed into magnificent structures!
·Public Voting: Friday, July 10, 10am – 6pm. Come out and vote for your favorite structure! Please bring $1.00 or 2 cans of food to cast your vote.
·Awards Ceremony: Friday, July 10, 7pm. Join us as we recognize all participants of the event and hand out awards to winning structures. Please bring $1.00 or 2 cans of food for admission.
All food and proceeds of the event will benefit MFBN’s partner agencies located around the state. At a time when so many suffer from food insecurity, please come out and support this event and help fight hunger across Montana.
