The Food Security Council serves to identify barriers to food security, gaps in services and the need for program development throughout the state. The mission of the Council is to identify the impact and effect of hunger in Montana; to educate the public and policy makers on the status of hunger in Montana, and they role they play in ending hunger; to collaborate with private, public and governmental organizations to implement realistic solutions to reducing hunger; and to pursue long term solutions at the local, state, regional, and federal policy levels and increase participation in food assistance programs.

The Food Security Council Awards are given every other year to recognize significant accomplishments toward ending hunger and promoting good health and nutrition in Montana.  Nominations for the 2019 awards are now being accepted. You may be in a position to nominate individuals or businesses deserving of such recognition.  The nomination should demonstrate that the nominee has gone above their normal job duties to make a noteworthy contribution to their local community or the state as a whole. Letters of nomination should include specific activities that warrant the award. The deadline for nominations to be received is 5:00 pm FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 2019. The Food Security Council will announce award recipients no later than WEDNESDAY MARCH 8, 2019, and awards will be presented at a luncheon and Award Ceremony at Carroll College Campus Center in Helena on FRIDAY APRIL 10, 2019 from 12:00-1:30pm.
