Tell Rep. Gianforte – vote NO on House Farm Bill
TAKE ACTION: Urge Rep. Gianforte to Vote NO on House Farm Bill (H.R. 2)
Even though the U.S. House failed to pass their harmful, partisan version of the Farm Bill last month, House leadership is attempting to hold another vote by June 22nd. The House Farm Bill (H.R. 2) includes severe cuts and restrictions to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly food stamps) that will cause millions of participants to lose all or part of their food assistance benefits. SNAP helps more than 120,000 Montanans keep food on the table, including 1 in 5 children and 1 in 12 workers. The House bill would worsen hunger in Montana, hurting families with children, seniors, low-wage workers, and other Montanans struggling to keep food on the table. This damaging, partisan approach is the wrong path forward, putting the entire Farm Bill process at risk.
Congressman Gianforte voted in favor of the House bill the first time it came up for a vote. We urge the House to reject their current bill and follow the lead of the Senate Agriculture Committee Farm Bill, which strengths and protects SNAP. If the House bill does come up again for a vote, we urge Congressman Gianforte to take this opportunity to change his position and vote no on H.R. 2.
For additional information on the House Farm Bill, see our statement on the rejection of the bill on the House Floor.
Please join us in asking Rep. Gianforte to vote NO on H.R. 2.

Sample Call/Email Message:
My name is [first name, last name] and I live in [town/city], Montana. I’m [calling or writing] to ask Representative Gianforte to oppose the House Farm Bill because of its harmful changes to SNAP, one of our country’s most powerful and effective poverty-reduction programs. SNAP helps more than 120,000 Montanans keep food on the table, including 1 in 5 kids and 1 in 12 workers. The House bill will hurt families with children, seniors, low-wage workers, and other Montanans struggling to keep food on the table. The bill also includes costly and burdensome administrative requirements that are simply unrealistic in our large, rural state, particularly given our severe lack of funding.
The House’s partisan approach is delaying the passage of this vital legislation. Montana deserves a strong Farm Bill that supports our farmers, rural communities, and families struggling to make ends meet – and that means a Farm Bill that protects SNAP. I urge Representative Gianforte to vote NO on the House Farm Bill.
