How It Works

Through our Retail Food Rescue Program, our Network Partners rescue safe-for-consumption food products that are taken off grocery store shelves. This provides more options to food pantry visitors and reduces food waste from grocery store inventory turnover.

MFBN connects our partners with nearby participating retailers, then provides food safety training and conducts monitoring to ensure all rescued food is kept safe for consumption.

In fiscal year 2025, our Network Partners rescued 8,963,607 pounds of food!

Accepted Products

• Produce

• Dairy
• Dry food
• Deli
• Prepared foods
• Non-food items such as hygiene products, pet food, etc.  

Our program does not accept recalled products, spoiled food, products without ingredient lists, or perishables returned by a customer.
