How It Works

Our Retail Rescue Food Program ensures our partner food pantries, meal programs, and hunger-relief organizations have a diverse selection of fresh, nutritious food products through retail partnerships.

MFBN connects our partner organizations with nearby participating retailers. We then provide food safety training so the organizations can receive high-quality food products that retailers have taken off grocery store shelves to make space for new inventory. This provides more options to food pantry and meal program visitors and reduces food waste from grocery store inventory turnover. MFBN conducts routine monitoring to ensure all rescued food is kept safe for consumption.

In fiscal year 2025, our Network Partners rescued 8,963,607 pounds of food!
